The Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber scombrus) is a pelagic fish found in many coastal waters around the world, including the northern United States, the European Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean and Black Seas, and the north-west Baltic. This species can grow up to 50cm in length and 1kg in weight. Mackerel are highly migratory, forming large schools and feeding on small crustaceans, plankton, snails and fish. As a popular gamefish and an important economic driver of many national fishing industries, the Atlantic Mackerel is highly valued for its delicious taste, high concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B12.
